Call for Papers: Special Issue on Advancing Equity and Engagement in STEM Education
The American Journal of STEM Education invites submissions for a special issue titled “Advancing Equity and Engagement in STEM Education: Transformative Practices for Belonging and Student Success.” This special issue will explore innovative strategies and transformative practices to foster belonging, engagement, and retention in STEM education. By focusing on topics such as equitable pedagogy, AJEDI (anti-racism, justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion) faculty support, and evidence-based approaches to student success, the issue aims to contribute actionable insights for creating inclusive learning environments and cultivating a diverse, well-prepared STEM workforce.
We welcome submissions on themes including:
- Innovative teaching practices to enhance belonging and engagement in STEM.
- The role of AJEDI in advancing STEM faculty and student success.
- Evidence-based strategies to increase retention and success of underrepresented groups in STEM fields.
- Community college contributions to advancing STEM equity.
- Supporting neurodivergent and first-generation STEM students.
- The impact of faculty-student interactions on STEM learning outcomes.

- Submission Format: Manuscripts must be submitted in Microsoft Word format.
- Style and Citation: All manuscripts must follow the APA 7th Edition guidelines for formatting, in-text citations, and references.
- Language: Submissions should be written in clear, professional English, without grammatical and typographical errors.
- Originality: All work must be original, unpublished, and not under review elsewhere.
- Short Essays/Narratives: Submissions up to 1,500 words, designed to share perspectives, experiences, or innovative practices in STEM education.
- Empirical Articles: Research-based articles between 2,000 to 5,500 words, including references, tables, and figures. These should report on studies, analyses, or evidence-based practices that contribute to STEM education.
- Title Page: Include the manuscript title, author(s) name(s), affiliation(s), email address(es), and a word count.
- Abstract: Provide a concise summary of up to 250 words, highlighting the purpose, methods, key findings, and implications.
- Keywords: Include 3–5 keywords related to the manuscript's focus.
- Main Text: Structure the text logically with clear headings and subheadings as appropriate.
- Tables and Figures: Ensure tables and figures are embedded within the text, formatted per APA 7th Edition standards, and include descriptive captions.
- References: Use accurate and complete APA 7th Edition citation style for all references.
All submissions will undergo a double-blind peer review. Authors may be required to revise and resubmit their manuscripts based on reviewer feedback.
