The Journal of International Students (JIS) invites distinguished scholars to serve as Special Issue Editors for thematic issues that advance critical conversations in international and global education.

About the Journal
The Journal of International Students is a quarterly peer-reviewed flagship publication on international education (Print ISSN: 2162-3104; Online ISSN: 2166-3750) based in Maryland, United States. As a multilingual and multidisciplinary journal, JIS publishes cutting-edge research from various disciplines, including international and comparative education, policy, sociology, psychology, linguistics, STEM education, and cultural studies.

JIS prioritizes research that addresses underexplored aspects of international education, centers marginalized perspectives, and employs innovative theoretical frameworks and methodologies. Special attention is given to studies highlighting voices from the Global South, perspectives of women and people of color, and work that transcends traditional disciplinary and geographic boundaries.

Responsibilities of Special Issue Editors
Selected Special Issue Editors will:

  • Propose and curate a thematic issue that aligns with the journal's mission and focus areas.
  • Collaborate with the editorial team to solicit high-quality contributions.
  • Manage the peer-review process to ensure rigorous scholarly standards.
  • Provide editorial oversight, including constructive feedback to authors.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Established expertise in a relevant field of international education.
  • Demonstrated editorial experience or active involvement in academic publishing.
  • A track record of high-quality scholarly contributions.
  • Commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion in research.

Proposed Themes
While the journal is open to innovative ideas, some areas of interest include:

  • Global competence and intercultural communication.
  • AI and technology in international education and mobility.
  • Racial justice, inclusion, and systemic reforms in higher education.
  • Virtual exchange and online learning in a global context.
  • Sustainability, climate change, and ecological consciousness in education.
  • Transnational identities, networks, and communities.

Submission Guidelines
Interested candidates are invited to submit:

  1. A 1–2 page proposal outlining the proposed special issue theme, its significance, and potential topics.
  2. A brief CV highlighting relevant editorial and scholarly experience.
