Theme: AI and Digital Teaching Methods in Language Education
The Journal of International Students (JIS), a peer-reviewed, multilingual, and flagship publication on international education (Print ISSN 2162-3104 & Online ISSN 2166-3750), invites submissions for a special issue on the transformative role of AI in digital language education.
As artificial intelligence reshapes education worldwide, its impact on language learning, cross-border student mobility, and global academic exchange remains a critical area of inquiry. This special issue aims to advance scholarly discourse on the influence of AI in language pedagogy, addressing the opportunities and challenges faced by international students, educators, and policymakers.
Scope of the Special Issue
This issue aims to examine how AI is enhancing, disrupting, and reimagining language learning in international and transnational education contexts.
Authors contributing to this special issue are encouraged to explore the intersection of AI and digital teaching methods in language education within international education contexts.
Context:
Artificial intelligence (AI) rapidly transforms language education, reshaping pedagogical approaches, instructional design, and student engagement in international and multilingual learning environments. As AI-driven tools become increasingly integrated into digital language education, it is critical to examine their impact on teaching strategies, curriculum development, and equitable access to learning opportunities for diverse student populations.
This special issue explores the intersection of AI and digital pedagogies in language education, with a particular focus on its implications for global student mobility, multilingual classrooms, and transnational academic collaborations. AI-powered instructional design, adaptive assessments, and machine learning applications in language acquisition present new opportunities for international students while raising ethical concerns related to bias, accessibility, and inclusion.
By bringing together interdisciplinary perspectives, this issue aims to deepen scholarly discussions on the role of AI in fostering cross-cultural learning, virtual exchange, and international student transitions. Contributions will examine AI-driven language immersion, automated translation, and digital tutoring, as well as challenges in ensuring fairness and responsible AI use in education. Ultimately, this special issue seeks to provide insights for educators, researchers, and policymakers navigating the evolving landscape of AI-enhanced language learning in global education.
