Authors need to register with the journal prior to submitting or, if already registered, can simply log in and begin the five-step process.
Types of Submissions
- Theoretical or empirically-based research articles: We publish research- or theory-based articles on higher education and focusing on teaching, research, curriculum, pedagogy, or policy. Manuscripts may be about specific fields of study (social or natural sciences, arts or humanities, medical or health science, math or engineering), so they must briefly provide the disciplinary context for audiences across the fields, as well as providing social/cultural/institutional contexts for audiences across national and other borders. Scholarly articles must be between 5,000 to 7,000 words (inclusive of references). Manuscripts below or over the permitted wordcount will be automatically desk rejected. Authors are encouraged to review these guidelines provided to reviewers for assessing their manuscripts before submitting their work for consideration.
- Teacher/scholar reflections or narratives: We consider academic or reflective narratives that focus on teachers’/scholars’ experiences and reflections that contribute to current scholarship on a multidisciplinary topic in higher education. We are aware that many teachers and scholars around the world do not have access to much of what is published in academic venues and databases at the global centers; such reflective writing could contribute meaningfully to scholarly conversation across borders and barriers. Reflections and narratives must be between 1,000 and 2,000 words. Writers of these items should also review the general guidelines linked above and implement any criteria that are relevant and feasible for their essays.
- Book reviews: Book reviews are concise articles that provide an evaluation of a recently published scholarly book. Book reviews are often invited but suggestions are welcome and should be sent to the Editor (lveliz@une.edu.au). While books reviews may address any topics in higher education, authors are encouraged to consider publications that have implications and applications for multidisciplinary areas in higher education. A book review might assess the importance of a book's contribution to a particular field covered by the journal’s aims and scope and should aim to objectively review the strengths and weaknesses that concern the journal’s audience. Please read the journal's aims and scope before submitting a review. Book reviews should not exceed 2,000 words.
