Effect of learners' self-efficacy on their learning performance at secondary schools in Nepal

This study aims to determine the effect of learner self-efficacy on the learning performance of students in secondary schools in Nepal. A cross-sectional survey was carried out in a sample of 1139 students using a survey questionnaire. The data were analysed using t-test, ANOVA, and SEM. The self-efficacy of the learners was high among the secondary school students. Self-efficacy explained 89% and 51% of the variance in mathematics and total achievement scores, respectively, whereas the sociodemographic variables explained 85% and 53% of the variance in the same achievement by controlling for self-efficacy-related variables. A significant result was found at the 95% confidence interval for self-efficacy with respect to the method of instruction, ethnicity, gender, and type of institution. The self-efficacy of a learner is a contributing factor in determining student performance, whereas the method of instruction, ethnic background, gender, and type of institution are determining factors in students' self-efficacy.
