Author Guidelines

Manuscripts containing 50% or more AI-generated text will be desk rejected without external peer review. Authors are responsible for ensuring that AI is used only as a writing aid and not as a substitute for original scholarly work.

Authors may use AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT) but must disclose their use in the manuscript. AI tools cannot be listed as authors. Authors are fully responsible for the accuracy and integrity of their work.

Submissions to the Journal of International Students must be original, unpublished, and aligned with the journal’s Aims & Scope. Manuscripts should follow APA Style (7th edition).

Manuscript Types:

  • Research Articles (4,500–7,500 words)
  • Research in Brief (up to 3,000 words)

Requirements:

  • Double-anonymous review (remove identifying information)
  • 4–7 keywords
  • Maximum 4 tables/figures
  • IRB approval (or justification)
  • At least 2–3 relevant citations from JIS or a similar topics
  • Submit two files: blinded manuscript + full manuscript with author details
  • Include a cover letter explaining contribution and fit

Submissions should be prepared according to the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA), 7th Edition

Submission Preparation Checklist

Please check this guideline. All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • The submission is original, has not been published previously, and is not under consideration elsewhere.
  • The manuscript complies with APA 7th edition formatting and citation requirements.
  • The manuscript meets the word limit for the selected submission type (including references, tables, and figures).
  • All identifying information has been removed from the manuscript and file properties to ensure double-anonymous review.
  • A separate manuscript with author details and a blinded manuscript have been uploaded.
  • A title page with author names, affiliations, emails, and brief bios is included.
  • A cover letter is provided, clearly explaining the manuscript’s contribution and alignment with the journal’s Aims & Scope.
  • The submission includes 4–7 keywords.
  • The manuscript includes no more than four (4) tables and/or figures.
  • IRB approval (or equivalent ethical clearance) has been obtained, or a justification is provided if not required.
  • The manuscript defines “international student” and situates the study within current global mobility contexts.
  • The manuscript engages with relevant, up-to-date scholarly literature, including appropriate citations from the Journal of International Students or similar related journals.
  • Where applicable, the manuscript reports sample size, population, and appropriate statistical measures (e.g., confidence intervals, effect sizes).
  • Any use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools has been transparently disclosed, and the authors accept full responsibility for the content and ethical compliance.
  • Upon acceptance, authors agree to the applicable Article Processing Charges (APC), with available waivers or discounts where applicable.
