JCIHE Open Positions Announcment: Managing Editor and Communications Editor

2019-05-09

The Higher Education Special Interest Group (HESIG) of the Comparative and International Education Society publishes the Journal of Comparative & International Higher Education (JCIHE). JCIHE is published three times a year (Spring, Fall, and Winter). JCIHE is one way in which the HESIG is fulfilling its mission to serve as a networking hub for promoting scholarship opportunities, critical dialogue, and linking professionals and academics to the international aspects of higher education.

The JCIHE editorial team is made up of an Editor-in-Chief, a Senior Editor, a Managing Editor, a  Communications Editor, and two Executive Editors. Each holds a three-year term, renewable for up to three terms. JCIHE is currently seeking volunteers for two positions: Managing Editor and Communications Editor.

The Managing Editor is responsible for the day to day operations of publishing JCIHE and maintaining  communication with OJED. The publishing of the journal includes following the strict standards of the JCIHE Style Guidelines, uploading article galleys on OJED, arranging the DOI number of each article, submitting completed issues to Ebscohost and other indexing agencies. The Managing Editor works closely with the Editor-in-Chief to manage the relationship between JCIHE and OJED. The Managing editor is also responsible for maintaining and updating the JCIHE website and coordinating social media with the Communication Editor.

Ideally the Managing Editor would be a member in good standing of the HESIG. The Managing Editor must have excellent copy editing skills, be meticulously detailed oriented, and have experience accurately following style guides. The Managing Editor should be proficient in Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat prior to starting the position. Familiarity with publishing platforms is preferred; comfort with and facility in learning online systems with minimal external support is necessary in the absence of prior experience.

The Communications Editor is responsible for the marketing and distribution of the journal. The prime responsibility of the Communications Editor is to ensure that the journal is being distributed on a regular basis and to a wide audience who would benefit from the mission of the HESIG. The Communications Editor is responsible for cultivating new relationships that support a wider distribution of the journal, which includes representing JCIHE at relevant conferences. The Communications Editor may also serve as a peer reviewer.

The Communications Editor must be a member in good standing of the HESIG. Ideally the Communications Editor has experience with communicating and marketing, including social media, listservs, website development and maintenance, and email marketing campaigns. The Communications Editor should have a graduate degree related to comparative and international higher education.

For those interested in applying for these positions, please submit to the Editor in Chief, Rosalind Raby (rabyrl@aol.com), a CV and a one-page cover letter with your qualifications for the position and reasons for your interest.
