Abstract

This chapter focuses on the identification of mechanisms and contexts framing the intra-regional mobility of students “in and of” the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). It attempts to explain the complex interactions of quality assurance networks—as one measure in the stable of measures necessary for student mobility and regionalisation—and to understand how and under what conditions they contribute to the construction of student mobility within the GCC.  The intention of the chapter is to identify and explain how quality assurance networks work, how outcomes are produced, among whom, and in what circumstances.  The aim is to fill the gap in Arab state and GCC national higher education in terms of the paucity of analysis, research and scholarly work related to higher education in the GCC and the Arab states.
